What is a Dropped Kerb?
Your council will need information about any changes you make to your driveway or parking lot. Dropped kerb refers to the lowered access point which connects your driveway to the highway and allows your vehicle safe entry and exit. These must be built in accordance with the building standards of your local council by certified contractors.
You will also need contractors who are registered on the Street Works Qualification Register as required by the New Roads and Street Works Act (1991). They also need to have the right liability insurance. We have the right Street works permits.
If there is an existing drop kerb on your driveway and it has not been altered in any other way, then you don’t have to install one. If you plan to modify or create a new parking area access point, however, permission will be required from the local authority.
I need my curb lowered. Could you please help?
The first step of the process is to determine whether you need planning permission for your curb to be lowered. You can also apply to obtain a highway excavation license. This also applies for kerb extensions. The local highways division will send an officer out to evaluate whether or not planning permission is needed. They will also determine if underground utility plans must be obtained from the relevant suppliers. Finally, they will decide whether or not the license will be granted. The entire application process takes approximately four to five weeks.
Once the excavation permit and any required planning permission are granted, work may be permitted to begin. Note that if an excavation licence is not granted and work begins, the council can penalize you retrospectively. This is why it is so important that all the steps are managed by an experienced contractor.
What's the use of a dropped knob?
Dropped kerbs are used to prevent cars from parking too closely to driveways or walkways. They can also be used to provide wheelchair access. Since 2010, the Department of Transport in England recommends them. They are loved by landowners as well as homeowners.
What is it worth to replace a broken kerb?
The cost to have a dropkerb placed depends on the job’s complexity. An average opening of 5 will run around £1400. Remember that this is a rough estimate. Other factors include what type of kerbs are desired, how far the dropped kerb is from your property, and many other factors.
