Dropped kerb - vehicular crossing in Hucknall
A properly constructed crossing can be requested that allows you cross a footpath, verge or road with a vehicle. You must own the property. The work will be done by you at your expense. Before any work can begin, you will need permission from us.
Before you apply for a dropped kerb
Before applying, you should review our Highway programme for works to determine if there is any work planned for your street.
You should not use these lists as a guideline, as they can be changed for many reasons. The fees are non-refundable. All applications and all works are at your own risk.
Dropped kerb requests to the highways department must have permission from our Planning Department.
Planning permission is required if you want to plan.

The Nottinghamshire adopted road gazetteer can help you locate the class of Nottinghamshire adopted roads. The first letter of the number is the class of road. Unclassified roads are not likely to require permission. The gazetteer does no show any un-adopted, private roads. Contact the landowner to find out if your street is not listed. Permissions are usually granted by the street manager, developer or other responsible party. You should check with the Land Registry to verify who is actually the owner of the land.
- You own a property that is listed or located within a conservation zone.

- Any surface water runoff from your new driveway will drain away your property
- Your property can be more than a house. Flats, maisonettes, and industrial properties are all acceptable.
It is possible to apply under the ‘permitted growth’ category, but it is best to consult our planning staff.

Apply for a dropped kerb
Once you have obtained planning or development permission, you are eligible to apply to the highways department.
Include:

- If applicable, permission from owner of property
- Application fee: £132.30
As part of the application, you can pay this fee by credit card. The fee cannot be returned.
The highways team will tell you if your application has been approved.

Contractors doing the work
To grant permission for the contractor to perform the work, we will need to know all details about their qualifications and insurance.
If you have been approved for your application, you will need our reference number.
You may need to pay additional fees or fill out forms if you:
- Temporary traffic lights (temporary signal) are required to perform the work safely.
- It is necessary to move a streetlight

S.184 of Highways Act 1980 makes it an offense to gain vehicular access to a property without a properly constructed vehicular crossing (dropped curb).
