Patterned Imprinted Concrete
Patterned imprinted concrete (PIC) is a groundbreaking skilled technique. This technique adds patterns and colours to concrete freshly poured on patios, driveways, and paths. This gives concrete the appearance of natural materials like stone, slate, and timber. This process eliminates the high price of natural products.
Minimal Maintenance
Patterned Concrete is an original product that only requires minimal upkeep. It performs well over other products like flagstones or tarmac. Many problems are eliminated with a four-inch fibre reinforced concrete and a dolomite base. Alternative products can solve these problems, including sinking, weeds, and moss. Wood decked patios are more susceptible to block paving, wood decay and pest control.

What is Pattern Imprinted Concrete?
Simply put, patterned concrete is also known as stamped concrete. It involves pouring concrete onto a sub-base and then applying a color followed by a hardener. This is different from traditional concreting that used blocks to create your finish.
The pattern is applied once the concrete has cooled. There are many options for prints to choose from, including brickwork, texture stone, and ashlar stones. You can add curb appeal to your home by using patterned concrete, especially for driveway lining.
Good quality print
The quality of the printed cement is what you should be focusing on. Laying fresh concrete requires extreme care, dedication, and patience. Less consistency in concrete form can result in a poorly constructed concrete floor.
Most contractors will use 6-8 rigid printing matsa and 1 flexible mat in a single set. The driveway’s narrowest section will require six mats. However, the flexible mats can be used to print and access areas that the rigid mats won’t.
Most printing mats will measure 600 x 600 mm. However, there are many options for matt sizes. You just need to decide how large you want them to be and then search the best prices.
Colour Consistency
You should consider colour consistency when installing imprinted concrete. This will ensure that your flooring has the desired colour. Patterned concrete consists of two main components: colour surface hardener, and antique release agents.
A poor appearance will be caused by a poorly applied colour surface hardener or a lack of enough. This is especially true for larger commercial jobs like retail shop flooring.
Large commercial jobs may require several concrete deliveries. This can result in slight colour variation in each concrete mixture. The surface hardener matches the colours when they are applied. This is especially useful for larger jobs that may take several days.
Ensuring Long-Term Durability
To ensure that the concrete floor is durable, the sub-stone foundation must be mixed with the ground below it. This could be soil or stone.
A concrete mix is also important in ensuring structural integrity will remain strong for many years.
This is particularly important for high-traffic areas such as driveways, multistorey car parks, and warehouses that operate machinery every day.
Reduce the Chance of the Concrete Cracking
For driveways made of patterned concrete, you must have at most 300kgs of cement per cubic yard.
Colder conditions will require you to consume 350-380 kgs.
An air entertaining additive can also be added to enhance the floor’s durability and resistance from cracking caused by heavy traffic and weather.
Reducing Maintenance & Maximising Results
The overall appearance of patterned concrete can be improved by using a solvent-based acrylic sealing agent (only after it is dry). Water-based acrylics pose a greater problem for patterned concrete so they should be avoided.
You can also apply the sealant once every four years to maintain the appearance and quality of your patterned concrete.
Although this is not a requirement, it will preserve your driveway (or other patterned concrete) for many more years.
